YOUTH LEADERSHIP RETREAT - FAQ

Saturday, Nov. 7 – Sunday, Nov. 8 | 4-H Camp Palmer, Fayette

  • It's a day (and night, if you want) in the woods with your YAC crew. You'll hang out, play games, and help shape where YAC goes this year. You'll also pick up some great skills you can use at school and in your community.
  • Nope. If you're in YAC, you belong here. The retreat can help build those skills.

  • Yes! You have three ways to do it:

    • Full retreat (overnight): Sat. 10 AM to Sun. 10 AM. Includes the sleepover in the lodge, evening activities, and breakfast.
    • Day option: Come for as much of Saturday as works for your schedule. You get the activities and meals without staying overnight. Just write your estimated arrival and departure times on the permission form.
    • Try it and see: Nervous about the overnight? Totally normal! Come on Saturday, check it out, and decide as you go. You can stay or head home, and no one will make it a big deal.

You can always do the full retreat next year.

  • Activities include:

    • Workshops led by peers and adults.
    • Learning about new perspectives.
    • Hang out and make new friends.
    • Work on our YAC project development.
    • Spend time in your workgroups.
    • Much, much more!

Expect a mix of fun and real work, with plenty of time to just hang out.

  • Your YAC friends, Robin, and Beth will be there the whole time.

  • Everyone stays together in the same lodge. All the girls share one room and all the boys share another, and Adult Allies stay in their own adult rooms in the same lodge. If neither room feels right for you, or you’d like to talk about other options, reach out to Robin or Beth before the retreat and we’ll work something out together.

  • Robin Willson rwillson@fultoncountyoh.com or 419-630-3960

    Beth Thomas bthomas@fultoncountyoh.com or 419-270-5806

  • Not completely. Phones are used only during set times so everyone can focus on each other and the retreat activities. Most people say that's when the best conversations happen.

  • In case of an issue or emergency, parents can contact Robin at 419-630-3960 or Beth at 419-270-5806.

  • Sleeping bag or blankets, pillow, towels, clothes, toiletries, warm clothes for outside, along with games and snacks to share.

Day option: warm clothes for outside activities, plus games and snacks to share.  We recommend you consider bringing all of your overnight items in the event that you choose to stay.

  • $10 holds your spot [same for the day option]. It's non-refundable after the retreat date, so if something comes up, let Robin or Beth know as soon as you can. Scholarships are available to any YAC member who wants one. DM Robin or Beth on BAND with a short paragraph about what skills you hope to gain and how you'll use them.

  • RSVP by Oct. 30 on BAND. Then turn in your money, the permission form, and the 2-sided Camp Palmer health form by the same date. Mark on the form which option fits you best, and if you're doing the day option, add your estimated arrival and departure times.

  • Your family arranges your ride to and from the retreat. Check BAND to find carpool buddies.

  • Bring it in the original container with the prescription label. Adult Allies will hold all prescription medication for safekeeping, except for things you need immediately, like an inhaler or EpiPen.

  • Write it in the "Special Restrictions" line on the permission form, or message Robin or Beth on BAND.

  • That's okay. Tell Robin or Beth and we'll call your parent or guardian. No pressure, no questions.
