VAPING AFFECTS ATHLETES
Lung effects
Vapes and e-cigarettes contain a number of ingredients found to be toxic that cause irritation to the lungs. These can also cause serious health risks including irreversible lung damage and lung disease.
Some of these products contain a herbicide, normally used for killing weeds, that could cause acute lung injury, COPD, and may cause asthma and lung cancer in users.
When your lungs aren't at top performance,
neither is your game.
Vascular Effects
Consistent vaping has been found to restrict blood vessels and reduce the flow of oxygenated blood to muscles and extremities which directly affects athletic performance during workouts and games.
Similarly there is evidence that this reduced vascular health would affect wound healing, including typical sports related injuries such as fractures, muscle tears, and other issues. Any delay in wound recovery would also reduce the benefits of the athlete's ability to build muscle from training and work outs.
When your blood vessels are restricted,
so is your performance.
Mental Health effects
It is well established that nicotine negatively impacts the brain, especially during the teen years when many neural pathways are being developed.
Research now shows that nicotine can amplify feelings of depression and anxiety.
If you are struggling with depression or anxiety*,
vaping could be making it worse.
Quitting has been shown to reduce these feelings.

HOW YOU LOOK
vaping damages skin
Vaping and nicotine use increase cortisol levels which also causes an increase in acne (zits). It can also increase your chances of chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis.
Vaping and nicotine use reduce the levels of oxygen and damages the collagen in your skin. This results in premature aging, wrinkles, and sagging skin.
Vaping and nicotine can damage skin cells resulting in an increase in melatonin production. This results in hyperpigmentation, which are brown patches or other discolorations or your face and skin.
tooth decay & gum disease
The chemicals in vape liquid can irritate gum tissues, causing swelling, redness, and inflammation. This can result in gum disease chronic bad breath, or even tooth loss over time.
Many vape liquids contain propylene glycol which causes dry mouth. Saliva is essential for tooth health, and dry mouth can increase your risk of cavities and gum disease.
Sweet flavors in vape liquid may not contain sugar, but they can promote bacteria growth in your mouth and increase acids that eat away your teeth enamel. When this combines with dry mouth your risk of cavities and tooth decay are significantly increased.
Vaping contributes to hair loss
Vaping contributes to hair loss and premature graying. Research now links the restricted blood vessels, inflammation, and toxic chemicals in vape products to hair follicle damage.
Nicotine restricts blood flow to the scalp. Blood flow in the scalp is a critical part of hair growth.
vaping changes body shape
Vaping and nicotine use can interfere with the endocrine system, and has been connected to abnormal fat distribution. As a result, users are more likely to have higher waist to hip ratio (larger waists) or more abdominal fat.

Big tobacco targets teens because they want to
hook you young and get a customer for life.
The cycle CAN HIJACK YOUR BRAIN
Once they hook you, nicotine sucks you in.
As you may know, the brain develops until about age 25, building the part of the brain responsible for decision making and impulse control.
Teens also build learning connections faster than adults and because addiction is a form of learning, that makes adolescents more at risk for addiction than adults might be.
Addiction can be hard to break, but there is help.
